History of the Firm
Keck & Wood, Inc. was founded in 1954 by J. Wylly Keck, Jr., who was at that time a thermodynamics professor at Georgia Tech. The firm was incorporated as Keck Engineering Associates, Inc. in 1959, and in the early years offered primarily mechanical engineering services to its clients. Thomas M. Wood, Jr. joined the company in 1960, bringing to the firm an extensive background in both the design and construction of municipal water and wastewater facilities. In recognition of Mr. Wood's major professional contributions, the present corporate name was adopted in 1967.

The company has evolved over the years from a closely held private firm, owned entirely by Mr. Keck and Mr. Wood, into today's employee-owned firm, with over three quarters of the outstanding stock held by the company's Employee Stock Ownership Trust and its Profit Sharing Trust Fund. Through the years, the firm has expanded its professional capabilities to cover a diversified range of professional services in many engineering disciplines. In addition to our traditional municipal water and sewer client data base, we now also provide consulting services in transportation, surveying, land development, natural gas, and computer software. |
| Over the years, projects of increasing complexity have been undertaken and successfully completed. Through the years, however, the basic operating and engineering policies have remained essentially unchanged; we assign each project to a senior-level project manager and then provide the staffing expertise and resources to allow the Project Manager to competently and efficiently complete the assignment. Every project receives the attention of our most experienced personnel. |
